Hi, I’m Joel – Founder and Director at Dance Department.
I’ve enjoyed a 3 decade-long career in the dance industry, so yep, you can say dance has been my life!
As a performer and choreographer, I’ve worked professionally across every area of the industry – but it’s teaching that has remained a constant in my life and career.
I’m deeply passionate about dance education and committed to making dance accessible to students of all ages and abilities.
Dance Department was born organically out of school’s requests for dance sessions that were more engaging, inclusive and exciting than they had previously experienced.
Through word-of-mouth and trusted referrals from school staff and administration, I expanded rapidly into a network of schools.
I understand the privilege of being invited into a school community, and I take great pride in having built long-term relationships with many of the country’s most respected institutions.

Served on voting academy of American Choreography Awards
Wrote national Jazz dance syllabus that is examined throughout Aust and NZ
Adjudicator for dance eisteddfods nationwide
Professional credits include Disney, MTV, So You Think You Can Dance, Olympics, NRL, Myer, and Sony Music

Critic and columnist for national dance magazine
